All About My Make Up

Conscience Check
Rumor has been rife for years that lipstick is manufactured with whale blubber, or some sort of whale byproduct. That seems highly unlikely given the international ban on whaling. However, as a vegetarian I felt it was my duty to check into the ingredients and make sure I wasn't accidentally ingesting animal bits. According to an article I found, I'm in the clear, although the revelation of the effects of castor oil gave me pause. The lesson here is, try not to eat too much of your lipstick!
My first task was to assemble a baseline cosmetics stockpile to work from. To this end, I supplemented my meager holdings with a fresh tube of black mascara and a black eyeliner pencil. I have no idea how to choose a blush color, so I went with the one that had the coolest name (Heat; kind of sexy, huh?). I also plunked down my hard-earned pennies for a tube of shiny lip gloss, a couple of lip-liner pencils and a small pot of navy blue gel eyeliner. To give myself a color boost, I grabbed a tinted moisturizer and I was sold on the effectiveness of a white mascara base coat. In total, I spent more than $100, because the defining quality of girlishness is that it's not cheap.

I'm fairly certain at this point that I will never master the art of blush deployment. One article that I read suggested that it should be put anywhere on your face that might be exposed to the sun. Which, honestly, is your whole face. I've settled into a habit of swatting a brush in the general vicinity of my cheekbones and calling it a day. I've only managed to poke myself in the eye with my mascara or eyeliner pencil about five or six times and I'm finding really creative ways to mix up the two colors of eye shadow with the shimmery powder. The lip gloss is mercifully flavorless as I seem to end up passively swallowing most of it throughout the course of the day. I've been laying off the powder as women far more accomplished in the art of girlishness than me have assured me that the “natural glow” is in right now.
